NYX Butter Gloss: Swatches and Review

NYX Butter Glosses are wonderful- smooth, non sticky, yummy smelling, and so cheap! I prefer these over most of my high end gloss formulas.

They don't go on as opaque as the swatches, but the deeper colors have a nice amount of pigment. My favorite is Apple Strudel- it gives a sheer and brightening gloss of peachy pink color.

I buy my NYX in the drugstore section of Ulta. If you are lucky enough to find an unmolested display of glosses, they frequently have buy one, get one 50% off!

MAC Love's Lure FOTD

When I first got MAC Love's Lure, I used her a couple of failed times before I discarded her into the reject pile. Love's Lure was too good for that, so I fished her out of the reject pile and gave her a proper try with real effort. Success!

Laura Mercier Artist Palette 2: Swatches and Review

Last year, Laura Mercier released an Artist Palette which I passed on. I always had lingering regrets, but this year brought a brand new Artist Palette.

The deep brown pebbled exterior opens to reveal a range of purple and brown colors.

The textures vary- matte, satin, and shimmer are all here. This palette also includes a nice mix of warm and cool tones.

Sparkling Dew is a satin off white. Guava is a pale pink stain. African Violet is a warm purple with golden shimmer- really stunning! Plum Smoke is a greyed matte lavender. Kir Royal is a satin textured warm medium purple. Violet Ink is a cool toned matte deep purple.

Vanilla Nuts (worst name ever) is a matte white. Primrose is a golden peach satin. Fresco is a matte light nude brown with a hint of pink. Bamboo is a shimmering beige taupe. Truffle is a matte warm medium brown. Espresso Bean is a deep cool brown with a matte texture.

Overall the Artist Palette has great textures, a lovely range of shades, and good color payoff. The mattes are especially soft and buttery. This palette is a winner!

Chanel Initiation and Fatal Illusion D'Ombres: Swatches and Review

Sparkly? Chanel? Sold!

Illusion D'Ombres are light cream shadows with a mousse-like texture and beautiful complex shimmer. They work best for me when I pat them over a powder shadow with my finger. I love how the beautiful shimmer adds extra dimension to my look.

Initiation is a highly shimmery neutral gold- neutral meaning that it doesn't lean too hard toward the yellow side of golden or too far into cool antiqued gold. Fatal is a light warm purple with fine silver shimmer. Fatal has a much more refined sheen when compared to the larger glitter in Inititation.

A slightly out of focus picture conveys the true beauty:

Here is the entire family:

Convoitise and Fatal have the same type of finish, which is much more subtle than their peers. Convoitise is a white gold compared to the deeper and more sparkly Initiation.

Fatal is lighter and more purple when compared to the brownish red Ebluoi. Illusoire is a cooler and deeper purple than Fatal. Epatant is not really relevant in this comparison, but I didn't want it to feel left out.

I highly recommend checking out Fatal and Initiation if you love sparkle and love Chanel. Or if you like to hoard shiny objects. I won't judge.

Prune in Fire FOTD

The lipstick is YSL Prune in Fire Rouge Volupte Shine, and I can't get enough of that name. I don't think the shade is true to what a prune in a fire might look like, but I applaud the creativity.

I have swatches of the new Chanel Illusion D'Ombres, Laura Mercier Artist Palette 2, and Tom Ford's Orchid Haze Quad coming up this week!

Chanel Convoitise Illusion d'Ombre: Quick Review

This is not a detailed review and comparison, just a quick post with a few pictures.

Convoitise looks like a yellow shimmery gold in the pot. It has the same light and bouncy textures as the other Illusion d'Ombres, but without as much glitter or sparkle.

On the skin, Convoitise is a light gold. There are shimmer particles, but this mostly has a smooth finish.

Convoitise might be my favorite Illusion d'Ombre yet. It is less sparkly than the others I own, (swatches here) making it great for an everyday look. The gold color is very brightening, and adds a polished glow to my lids.

Chanel Seduction FOTD

I almost titled this post "Camel Seduction", after my last entry was incorrectly spelled and posted as such. One quick reader caught the mistake before I fixed it, and emailed me. We both laughed about that one :)

Chanel Seduction Quad: Swatches and Review

Chanel recently put out a mini collection with two quads, two Illusion d'Ombres, and eyeliners to go with each set. I wasn't planning to get anything, but after seeing the collection in person, I left with two things. I purchased Convoitise Illusion d'Ombre and Seduction Quad.

Seduction has a rosy brown color combination with a bit of peach thrown in.

It really doesn't look special or amazing, but the rose color is what sold me!

The palest color is an off white satin. The peach has a slight golden shimmer that layers beautifully with the rose. The rose color is almost burgundy in some lights, and has a silver shimmer. The deepest color is a matte brown, which adds depth to the crease or could be used for liner.

I can tell that this will be the perfect color palette for fall. The rose tones are warm and natural.

I have a thing for rosy colors, as documented below:

Chanel Eclosion has a lighter color scheme. The peach is brighter and the burgundy is deeper.

Chanel Harmonie du Soir has a more shimmery finish. The burgundy color is lighter and more metallic than Seduction.

Guerlain Turandot is warmer than Seduction and also has more varied textures.

Chanel Seduction has wonderful pigmentation and applied smoothly. I did experience a bit of fallout from the rose shade, but it was better when I patted the color on instead of sweeping with my brush. I loved the effect on my blue eyes, and I think it would be flattering on green and brown as well. Definitely take a second look at Chanel Seduction if you have passed over this collection.
